Hi Crafty peeps,

mudra craft challenge - contest - play with watercolour - win craft supplies

This is SathyaKala from Paperie Expressions. Am happy to be here today to host this monthly challenge and its my ever first Mudra DT project after my relocation to India.

Play with Watercolors is our Challenge theme. Hope you are as excited as I am.

You can play with watercolours by painting the stamped images, giving a background wash, stenciled patterns, achieving Ombre look and so on, along with Mudra products predominantly in your projects.

Over to the Design Team Inspirations! This time we have brought in inspirations as Watercolor Tags, Art journal spread and a Watercolor stencilled panel.

First up is Swati Gupta

“I have 2 beautiful Bookmarks for you as inspiration to our ongoing Monthly Watercolour challenge.

To make these bookmarks you would need any brand of Watercolours, Watercolour brush, white gel pen and following supplies from Mudra’s collection.

Tip: If you do not have watercolours you can use Mudra Dye ink pads as a substitute. Just squeeze out some ink on a laminated surface by pressing the ink pad on it and pick the ink with a watercolour brush. It would work just perfectly.

Moving on to creating these bookmarks:

  1. The whimsical Sky bookmark:
    1. Take a 100% cotton Watercolour paper and cut it to size 2 ¼” * 6”
    2. Tape it down on a surface using a paper tape.
    3. Using a clean brush and clean water, wet the entire paper. No puddles of water just a thin glossy water layer.
    4. Take your watercolours and start adding diluted paint in horizontal line. I started with Orange colour and ended with blue. You can choose the colour combination as per your choice.
    5. Using a Waterproof black ink, I stamped the Mushroom from the Magical Mushroom stamp set.
    6. Then I coloured and highlighted some areas of the mushroom so that it distinguishes from the background.
    7. Using a gold foil, I foiled the windows of the Mushroom house.
    8. Then I used Mudra Brown ink pad and stamped the texture in the Mushroom House gate.
    9. Using Mudra Black ink pad and stamped the sentiment ‘Wishing you a magical day’.
    10. Using Mudra sequins of different colours that compliment my background colours I stuck them in diagonal pattern as you can see in the image.
    11. I also used a white gel pen and hand drew some stars and dots.
    12. To tie the thread, I punched a hole on top centre and pressed an eyelet in it.
    13. Then I used a twine and thread it through the hole.
    14. Our Bookmark is completed now.
  2.  The Galaxy Bookmark:
    1. Take a 100% cotton Watercolour paper and cut it to size 2 ¼” * 6”
    2. Tape it down on a surface using a paper tape.
    3. Using the Biggest circle chipboard from Circle -01 Chipzeb set, I traced 3 half circles on my paper.
    4. Using watercolours and I started adding colours in a galaxy colour combination inside the circles. You can choose the colour combination as per your choice.
    5. I added a few salt particles to my wet circles.
    6. Once everything dried, I added stars using white gel pen.
    7. I coloured all the area except the colourful circles in black.
    8. Then once the paper was dry, I added gold shimmer paint spatters all over the bookmark.
    9. Then I cut the circle Chipzeb by measuring the borders of the circle and used white paint to paint the chipzeb and left it to dry.
    10. I heat embossed the sentiment from the Magical Mushroom stamp set in the black area using white embossing powder.
    11. Then I stuck the circle chipzeb to the bookmark like puzzle pieces.
    12. Using Mudra sequins of different colours that compliment my background colours I stuck them in diagonal pattern as you can see in the image.
    13. To tie the thread, I punched a hole on top centre and pressed an eyelet in it.
    14. Then I used a twine and thread it through the hole.
    15. Our Bookmark is completed now. 😊

I hope you enjoy making Watercolour bookmarks using the techniques I shared.”

For this Art Journal, First I apply white gesso on base and heat dry it. Glue tissue paper as pictured. Apply texture paste using Vintage Script 1 stencil. After drying apply watercolor to add depth. Add more texture using Hexaline stencil and Grunge Damask1 stencil. Stamp images from MM Chaotic Beauty stamp using black archival. Heat emboss chipzeb from Hello Honey chipzeb with black embossing powder and glue them as pictured.

And

Now, Onto my project.

Not a card this time, rather watercolored a beautiful stencil and matted it. This can be used as a tag by adding a note at the back or add it a cardboard to make it into a wall art. Either way it stoles the heart for the beautiful repeated rose patterns. Took Love roses stencil and sponged it with Antique Linen distress ink. Then watercolored over that with Daniel Smith watercolors – Quinacridone Red, Indian Yellow.  And bit of Prisma colored pencils for deepening the shadows. Generously splashed white acrylic paints over the roses. Fussy cut the stenciled portion and matted over a heart shaped black cardstock. Then took Floral pattern heart chipzeb and added the mini element by colouring it with Zig real brush pens.

Hope you have inspired enough to play along this challenge. Love to see your projects.
